How to Disabling Low Ink Level Notification for Canon IP and MP


The reset method work for canon printers that using PG-40 and CL-41 cartridge. After doing this reset method canon printer will not display low ink notification anymore and will not show error code ”E4? or ”E5?. This method takes from indoreset yahoo group and prepared by Choy.

Here How to Disabling Low Ink Level Notification for Canon IP and MP, the method to reset ink level notification :



  1. Push ”resume“ for 5 seconds for canon IPXXXX. For canon MPXXX you must enter to service mode.
  2. Push Power switch then remove power cord.
  3. Insert plug power cord while pressing ”power switch“ at the same time.
  4. Push Start/reset by step 2 continue Wait display shown ”0?
  5. Push + change display from ”0? to ”1?
  6. Push color button 2 times
  7. Push Power switch again , Printer will print 1 page
  8. Open cover
  9. Unplug power cord
  10. Take out ink cartridge #40 and #41
  11. Insert plug again
  12. Push power switch
  13. Open cover (scan cover)
  14. Insert ink cartridge #40 and #41 again

Enter to service mode for canon MPXXX
  • With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Reset button.
  • When the Power is lit, press the Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
  • When releasing the Power button and the Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)

Canon MX300Solution to reset the ink level for Canon MX300. The methode get from printer forum
  1. Disconnect the power cable
  2. Connect it while holding down the power button
  3. With the power button still down, press twice the "Cancel/Stop" red button
  4. Release the power button
  5. The printes turns into a kind of factory mode...(wait for about 10 seconds, utils it says "Idle")
  6. Press the ">" (next to the "OK" button) once."Shipping Mode 3"
  7. Press the "OK" button.
  8. Press "OK" again for "Without cleaning"
  9. A test page will print..
  10. Open the cover, like you are about to change the cartridges.
  11. Disconnect the power cable again.
  12. Take out both cartridges.
  13. Close the cover.
  14. Connect the power cable once again.
  15. Turn the printer on.
  16. Now just put the cartridges back

Perform a Factory Reset and a Cartridge RESEAT to reset theink counters and enable it to put ink on the paper. Make sure the ink cartridges are installed in the printer.

Factory Reset STYLUS COLOR 500 :
  1. Shut printer off. Disconnect parallel printer cable at rear of printer.
  2. Hold down the all three buttons (Load button, Black Cleaning button, and Color Cleaning buttons) while powering on the printer (continue holding for approx. (1) one second and release).
  3. Then within one second
  4. Hold down the Load/Eject button for (2) two seconds only.
  5. Release Load/Eject; the complete sequence must be done within (3) three seconds.

Note : factory reset will reset both ink counters and other ink cartridge may not register out of ink, out of ink light may not flash or turn on.

There is no other way to correct your situation so you will need to monitor the other ink level and change it if poor color quality cannot be corrected by cleaning cycles.

Reseat the Ink Cartridge COLOR 500 :
  1. Pause the printer, hold down the Load/Eject button for 6 seconds; power light will blink.
  2. The print head will move to left to cartridge installation position.
  3. Lift the Gray Clamp that holds the ink cartridge all the way open then clamp it back down "Make sure you not take ink cartridge out"
  4. Once the clamp is closed, press and release the Load/Eject button to recharge the Ink Delivery system (takes about 2 minutes).

If you encounter a blinking amber light on your canon printer after refilling the cartridge 
all you have to do is this.

For IP Series Printers: Holding the paper feed button down for 5-8 seconds, it will allow you to override the counter. The cartridge will print , however, the ink level display may not show.

For MP Series Printers: Holding the STOP/RESET button down for 5-8 seconds, it will allow you to override the counter. The cartridge will print , however, the ink level display may not show.

How to Reset Ink Level for Canon MX300


Canon Pixma MX300 is one of the Inkjet multifuction (Print, Scan, Copy, Fax) printer from Canon. Like general case of printer, after filled by ink usually ink level not full. At some cases of printer, after ink level empty, printer cannot be used to print.

Here the Solution to reset the ink level for Canon Pixma MX300, follow this steps to reset the ink level in your canon MX300.

  1. Switch off the Canon MX300 and disconnect the power cable.
  2. While press and hold the power button, Connect the power cable to electric socket.
  3. While pressing the power button, press the “Cancel/Stop” button (red button).
  4. Now release the power button and the printer turns into a kind of factory mode. Wait for 10 seconds until it says “idle”.
  5. Press “>” (next button) once “Shipping Mode 3? then Press the “OK” button. Press “OK” again for “without cleaning”.
  6. A test page will print.
  7. Open the cover, like you are about to change the cartridges.
  8. Disconnect the power cable again without switch off the printer.
  9. Take out the both cartridges.
  10. Close the cover.
  11. Connect the power cable and turn on the printer.
  12. Now just put the cartridges back and the ink level in the canon Pixma MX300 have full again.
